bleh… finally summer break is here! and now I can focus on doing my own stuff. To kick things off, I digitally colored the sketch Sam Kieth drew for me a few months ago. He actually suggested for me to color it. lol.

Well here are some quick ideas… I doubt this is what he had in mind… Many apologies, Mr. Kieth…

Awww yeah, buddies… One of my biggest dreams have come true: meeting the great and ever-so talented, Sam Kieth!

“Who is this guy?”, you ask.
Google him. You will not be sorry, I promise you.
Anyhow, Sam Kieth is someone I have sorely admired for a long time, ever since MTV turned his comic book series “The MAXX” into a short animated series (this was back in the 90s when MTV was awesome, k? lol)
Mr. Kieth shares a lot of his work through his wonderful blog, Trout-A-Verse, but its rare for him to come out and make appearances… until recently! So it was a real treat for us fans in the Bay Area when the Cartoon Art Museum hosted a book-signing and exhibition of original Kieth work!

It was sooo worth the trip and the wait in line to finally meet one of my heroes. MoreOVER, Mr. Keith was nice enough to offer original SKETCHESSSS to his fans. <3

My kid sister. Me. SAM KIETH!!!

JULIE WINTERS……….in MY SKETCHBOOK!!! (yeah, you jelly lol)
Seriously guys, I’m not one to get excited over a lot of things… but this… this was pretty dope.

One of my favorite, all-time pieces. Probably the one that help me discover Rene Gruau, and the wonderful world of fashion illustration. Fashion Design from a comic book guy? hmm. something to think about.

Anyone who has read or seen the The MAXX knows that it’s a pretty deep and twisted story. I remembered watching this section in the animated series as a kid… and it really stuck with me. eee… it was a little surreal seeing an actual and original image that dwelled deep in my childhood…
Like I said, it was a crazy and exciting experience :)
I <3 Sam Kieth!
Hercules… in 3D!
K.. just keep in mind he’s a work-in-progress…. There’s still AAAA lot of work to go :)
